Angel: That’s a nice shirt, Kel. I like that shade of blue.

Angel: Oh... Sorry.

L1: Oh... maaf.

Magda: Wow, I’m puffed. I just did a ten k run.

L1: Wow, saya ngos-ngosan. Saya baru lari sepuluh kilometer.

Angel Ten kilometers?

L1: Sepuluh kilometer?

Magda Yeah. I’m trying to run more each week.

L1: Yeah. Saya mencoba lari lebih banyak setiap minggu.

Magda Angel. Are you OK. You look like you’ve seen a ghost

Angel:: Nothing that bad. I was trying to make conversation with Kel and he just got up and left.

Angel: I thought everyone in Australia was friendly.

Magda: Most people are, but not everyone. Just know that it’s his problem, not yours. The best thing about him is that he’s away most of the time.

Angel: I was trying out my conversation starters on him… but it didn’t work.

Angel: Could you tell us more about the assessment tasks, Marion?

L1: Tolong dijelaskan lebih jauh tentang tugas yang dinilai, Marion?

Marion: Yes, of course. That was my next point. The assessment task for this module is an essay and a group presentation on the topic of “crime and punishment”.

L1: Ya. Memang itu yang hendak saya jelaskan. Tugas yang dinilai untuk modul ini adalah sebuah essay dan presentasi kelompok dengan topik “tindak kejahatan dan hukuman”.

Angel: And how long does it have to be?

L1: Dan harus berapa panjangnya?

Marion: At least three hundred and fifty words.

L1: Paling sedikit tiga-ratus-lima puluh kata.

Angel: I see. Thanks.

L1: Oh begitu. Terima kasih.

Marion So we’ll be visiting the courts in the next couple of weeks to give you an idea of how the Australian justice system works.

Lesson 10: I need a job!

Magda: So Angel, I’ve worked out the bills.

L1: Jadi Angel, saya sudah menghitung jumlah tagihan yang ada.

Angel: The bills?

L1: Tagihan?

Magda: Yes, electricity and gas.

L1: Ya, tagihan listrik dan gas.

Angel: Oh I’ve already put money in the kitty for this week.

Magda: The kitty’s only for food.

L1: Uang yang di kitty itu hanya untuk makanan.

Angel: Oh.

Magda Yeah, now you’ve only been here for three weeks so you don’t have to pay full share until the next bills arrive.

L1: Yeah, karena kamu disini baru tiga minggu jadi kamu tidak usah membayar penuh sampai tagihan berikutnya.

Angel: That’s good. How much is it?

L1: Baik. Berapa?

Magda: This time it’s $26.65 for both electricity and gas. Normally your share would be about $80 for two months. That’s not too much is it?

L1: Kali ini $26.65 untuk listrik dan gas. Normalnya bagianmu sekitar $80 untuk dua bulan. Tidak terlalu mahal, kan?

Angel: Not really. But I spent too much on clothes and things when I first arrived. All I can afford to do is pay the bills for the rest of my stay. I’ve spent all my fun money!

Angel: I have to apply for a work permit. I don’t know how long it takes to come through.

L1: Saya harus minta ijin kerja. Saya tidak tahu berapa lama harus menunggu untuk mendapatkan ijin itu.

Magda: I think it takes less than a week if you apply online. What work have you done before?

L1: Saya rasa tidak sampai seminggu kalau mengajukan permohonan melalui internet. Sebelumnya kamu sudah ada pengalaman kerja apa?

Angel: Nothing. I just helped sell in my parents’ clothes shop.

L1: Belum ada sama sekali. Saya cuma membantu berjualan di toko pakaian milik orang tua saya.

Magda: That’s not nothing, Angel. You have sales experience. Mmm. I think I saw a sign at a jeans store. They want a casual sales assistant for Friday night and Saturday morning.
